CONNOR HALL RECEIVES LEED GOLD CERTIFICATION!

BRYCON Construction and Studio Southwest Architects were notified by the LEED Consultant for Connor Hall at the New Mexico School for the Deaf that the project has received LEED Gold Certification. The project was reviewed by the United States Green Building Council, which awarded the building 39 points, sufficient to qualify for LEED Gold Certification. A building must attain 39 to 51 points to qaulify for Gold Certification.  The project was initially designed to meet LEED Silver Certification. This was the first LEED project undertaken by BRYCON. Lindsay Duncan, with Halcom Consulting LLC, the company hired to submit plans, documentation and recycling procedures to the USGBC for review, had high praise for the company. “BRYCON deserves a big pat on the back for having a spotless review and zero clarifications, a rarity.”

The building has already exceeded the expectations of the owner, designer and the building’s occupants. It functions wonderfully as a classroom facility, art building and gathering place for hearing-impaired students who attend New Mexico School for the Deaf. Connor Hall was originally built in 1928 as a boys dormitory. After many remodelings, the building was abandoned until 2008, when the owner decided to combine a historic renovation with a major addition. The renovation saved the beloved facade of the building, which had been a Santa Fe landmark for generations, while the remodeling brought the building into the 21st Century. In addition to classrooms, the 29,000 square-foot addition offers computer labs and a full woodworking and mechanical shop for students to receive hands-on training.
